Ships Graveyard

beckyharvey23

Life has been busy; lately, with plenty of ups and downs, I have finally got around to writing my blog and editing photos.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to make the most of the beautiful weather and went to Purton in Gloucestershire, searching for the Graveyard.

I parked in the tiny Car Park and could see a pretty Canal. Before I could walk across the bridge, I had to wait for the bridge to come back down after letting the boat through.

When I got over to the other side of the Canal, I headed left, no idea if it was the right direction, but that's the fun of exploring.

As I was walking, the view of the Canal was stunning.

I loved how blue the water was.

As I took in the views, I came across the Ship graveyard on the right.

The track was muddy, so I looked and went back to the towpath as I knew I would get stuck or fall on my bottom.

When I got back to the towpath and took a couple of steps, there was another side path, and I came across this lovely little space.

And I could see some more graveyards but didn't adventure around them due to the conditions; I will go back in the summer when it's dry to explore more.

I spent time here taking in the views.

Then I spotted this.

Then to my surprise, the wall was a train track, which made the place even more tranquil.

I went back to the towpath to explore; it was lovely to see other people enjoying the Canal.

And the views were breathtaking, taking it all in as I walked.

Then I came across this historical building on the Canal.

Reading the sign next to the building, this was the Severn Railway Bridge, which mentioned the rise and fall of the bridge, which was enjoyable learning the history of the bridge. If you are interested in the past, here is a link to Severn Railway Bridge - Wikipedia.

After studying history, I carried on with my adventure and spotted another ship.

And then, I managed to capture a better picture of the lifeboat station.

Then I arrived at the Sharpness Marina.

The views at the Marina were breathtaking.

And here is the view of the lifeboat station on the other side.

I sat at the Marina for a while to have something to eat and a drink before heading back.

After my break, I headed back along the Canal, soaking in the views and the sun, only taking some photos, as I wanted to enjoy the moments.

I got back to my starting point, reflected on a charming, enjoyable walk, and learned about the bridge's history. I definitely will be going back and hopefully learn more about the Graveyard.
