The Court Gardens and Lydney Harbour

beckyharvey23

As today is hot, I am trying to stay cool by editing more photos. So today's post is about my adventures on 21st July.

I decided I would go to the Court Gardens in Westbury-on-Severn, as this has been on my list to do for a while.

When I arrived, I parked in the tiny car park; I walked through the gate and was amazed by this beautiful scenery.

I started walking down the left side and was amazed there was a variety of flowers and fruit growing along the side.

I then spotted this.

As I continued, I loved seeing the lovely trees in a row.

And more variety of flowers.

At the end of the lake, this was the view.

a nice little fountain

Some more fish.

The lake was vast and beautiful.

As I continued walking, there was another little garden where the bees loved the flowers.

Here is the variety of flowers in the garden.

I then headed over the bridge, and there was a lovely picnic area to have lunch.

I then walked back over the bridge, with some individual gardens to investigate.

Here are the flowers close up.

After exploring, I wanted to go somewhere else but wasn't sure where. As I was driving out of the car park, I saw the sign to Chepstow, so I decided to head off in that direction and came across a sign for Lydney Harbour.

I parked in a layby at the start of the track and near the railway station. I didn't know what to expect, but that's what I love about exploring the unknown.

As I was walking down the track, the views side by side was beautiful; it would be even nicer on a sunny day.

As I continued, a gate gave you access to the Estuary. You could walk around it, but I went left, which came to a dead end, but the view was lovely; next time, I will go right and see where the track leads.

I took the opportunity to practice capturing the birds.

I returned to the original track to continue to the Harbour, where there was a cafe to have drinks.

Then I arrived at the Harbour, which didn't disappoint.

I grabbed a drink and a cheese toastie from the cafe and sat on the bench by the Estuary, enjoying the scenery.

After lunch, I started walking back, coming across information boards.

You can find the following at the bottom of the Estuary, Sea Trout, Atlantic Salmon, Thwaite Shad, River Lamprey, Sea Lamprey, Allis Shad and Common Eel.

As I continued walking, I met a lovely old couple and started talking to them. The Gentleman told me he lived in Lydney when he was little, a house on the hill, and he could see Bristol getting bombed in the blitz. They also told me there used to be a factory that supplied plywood for the Spitfire planes, and the railway used to work, getting coal and tipping it down the chute. I love discovering the history of places and learning from the older generation.

After chatting to the lovely couple, I returned to my car, spotting this along the way.

Before I got in the car, I had to walk to the steam railway to take a photo as it's beautiful.

After admiring the railway, I walked back to the car and drove back home. I had a fantastic time, and it's on my list to go back and explore the other walks and the town centre in Lydney next time.
